Mauricio Pochettino will make drastic changes to Tottenham Hotspur’s line up in an attempt to help turn things around, as reported by Football Insider.
It has been suggested that the Argentinian will drop Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose due to underwhelming performances.
The plan is that Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon will take their places in the team, as and when they are available.
Of the players expected to be dropped, Rose is the only one whose contract is set to run past this season’s end, as per Transfermarkt.
All four of these players have played at least fairly regularly so far this season, as across the Premier League and Champions League, Alderweireld has 10 starts, Vertonghen has 7 starts, Eriksen has 6 starts and 4 substitute appearances, while Rose has 8 starts and 1 substitute appearance, as per WhoScored.
This highlights that Pochettino is willing to make drastic changes to make sure that both performances and results improve, while it could also be a sign that they are preparing for life without them – which is especially so for the trio whose contracts come to an end this summer.
Pochettino definitely needs to do something to improve his side’s results, so it will be encouraging that he is taking action in such a drastic way.
In addition to giving other players a chance and show the quartet they need to improve, this also sends a message to the rest of the squad that he is not wary of taking out players who aren’t performing to the required level.
Will this be Mauricio Pochettino's last season at Tottenham?
