Tottenham Hotspur: Neil Warnock backs Wilfried Zaha to ’cause havoc’ at Spurs

Former Premier League manager Neil Warnock has talked up the chances of Wilfried Zaha coming good at a team like Spurs, following rumours linking the Ivorian with a switch to north London.

Should Tottenham spend big money on Wilfried Zaha?

According to the Daily Mirror, Zaha’s new agent Pini Zahavi is thought to be trying to thrash out a deal with Spurs, who are expected to baulk at Crystal Palace’s reported £80m valuation for the winger.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Warnock suggested that the 27-year-old would fit in at Tottenham, with Zaha now a ‘complete player’ with the attributes to become a success at the top level.

He said: “I think he’s a complete player, now. It’s just whether people would pay that sort of money.

“He would [be a fantastic player for Spurs]. It’s the pace and power you’ve got to have in the Premier League, now. He just opens defences up.

“The thing about Wilfried is, if he was in a team that had 65-70% possession which the top teams do, I think he’d absolutely flourish, there.

“At the minute he’s picking up balls so deep at times, whereas in a really good side, I think he’d get it in all areas and I think he’d cause havoc.”

There have been signs throughout Zaha’s career that he is worthy of playing for a team with loftier ambitions than Crystal Palace.

His first exit from the club to Manchester United did not exactly go to plan, but was nevertheless a sign of the promise he had as a youngster, while interest in particular from Arsenal and Everton in the summer window suggests he has been delivering on that potential in the meantime despite not having much domestic success at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Spurs could perhaps do with an added threat out wide in attack, which is an area they are not exactly overly stocked in, particularly with Erik Lamela being a long-term injury absentee.

While Zaha may not have exactly backed up Warnock’s claims of causing havoc with just three goals and assists to his name so far this year, given that he has previously stated his desire to leave the club he scored 10 times for last season, perhaps he does indeed warrant the step up that Tottenham could yet provide this month.
