Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson tips Troy Parrott as one to watch in 2020 - Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that the club’s young striker Troy Parrott could be one to watch next year.

The 17-year-old was handed his Premier League debut by Jose Mourinho in Spurs’ 5-0 win against Burnley on Saturday (Transfermarkt) and, according to the Daily Mail, he could be set to play in the Champions League for the first time when they take on Bayern Munich.

By incorporating him into the first team, it would suggest that Mourinho rates the youngster highly and Robinson believes that he could be the player to back-up star striker Harry Kane going forward.

When asked which Spurs player would be one to watch in 2020, Robinson told Football Insider: “Somebody who’s hardly played yet, gone one [Spurs] appearance under his belt but Troy Parrott, he’s got his first cap for the Republic of Ireland and he’s still only 17.

“Pochettino has had him in and around the squad for a while, he’s working with Harry Kane on a daily basis so I think if somebody is to take the load off Harry Kane, if they’re not going to sign anybody, he’s one to watch, whether he goes out on loan or he stays next season.”

Based on his fledgling career so far, Robinson certainly has a point and Parrott could well burst onto the scene next year.

He has already been given his full international debut for the Republic of Ireland despite being just 17-years-old and has an excellent record at youth level.

This season he has scored six goals and provided one assist in just four UEFA Youth League matches whilst also scoring twice in just one Premier League 2 appearance (Transfermarkt)

Finding someone to be Kane’s understudy has been a problem for Spurs in recent years. They have had both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen but neither really succeeded at the club.

Indeed, convincing good strikers to come in when they know full well that they will be back-up to Kane is surely an issue for the club.

Therefore, the perfect answer could be promoting a promising youngster such as Parrott to do that job.

He won’t expect to go in ahead of Kane straight away and will be able to learn from the England captain and improve his game, which could eventually lead to him being the natural successor up front for Tottenham.
