Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson would love to see club complete Gareth Bale transfer - Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has admitted that he would love to see the club re-sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this month.

The Welshman has endured another difficult campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu this term, starting just 11 games (Transfermarkt) due to both injuries and being out of favour with Zinedine Zidane. Real Madrid actually almost sold the forward in the summer to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning, with Zidane saying at the time that a move would be “best for everyone,” before the club ultimately pulled the plug on the deal (BBC Sport).

And the former England number one believes that a return to Spurs would be a great move, not only for the club but also for Bale as he believes that he would work well with manager Jose Mourinho. Speaking about Bale potentially returning to north London, Robinson told Football Insider: “I’d love to see it happen. I think if anyone can get the best out of Gareth Bale it’s Jose Mourinho.

“Losing Christian Eriksen, losing that little bit of creativity, that edge he’s brought to the side in the last however many seasons that he’s been there, I think a signing like Gareth Bale would really ignite the place again. It would really give the fans a huge boost.”

Robinson certainly has a point, if Tottenham could get Bale back then it would almost certainly create a positive vibe around the club.

Whilst he has struggled this season, he is still a world-class operator and someone capable of winning games by himself at times. After all, this is a player who produced a stunning display in the Champions League final just over 18 months ago, scoring two goals including a brilliant overhead kick to help Los Blancos beat Liverpool (BBC Sport).

He has proven himself as a prolific goal scorer too both for club and country. In his time at Real Madrid, he has netted 105 goals in 246 appearances, whilst for Wales, he has 32 goals in 79 appearances (Transfermarkt).

With Harry Kane out until at least April with a hamstring injury (tottenhamhotspur.com), Spurs could certainly do with adding more goals to their squad and Bale would certainly do just that.
