Serge Aurier is one of the Tottenham Hotspur players who may currently only have a short term future at the club under Jose Mourinho, amid interest in the Ivory Coast international from AC Milan, according to recent reports from football.london.
Football.london recently published an article looking at the Spurs players “who have a long term future under Jose Mourinho and those who don’t”. One of the Spurs players who the website claim may not have much of a future at Spurs under the Portuguese manager is Aurier.
Aurier has been linked with Milan as far back as August 2019, when French publication ‘le10sport’ reported that the Ivorian right-back was at the top of the Rossoneri’s transfer list. Italian publication ‘Sportmediaset’ also reported that Aurier “is very much liked” by the Italian club back in September 2019.
Football.london, who reported that Milan were “readying an offer” for the 27-year-old Spurs player in January, have now reignited these rumours of Milan’s alleged interest in the Ivorian, with the website claiming that “Milan retain an interest” in bringing the 27-year-old to Italy.
Aurier, who is valued at £18 million (as per Transfermarkt), has featured in 24 of Spurs’ 29 Premier League games this season, earning an average overall rating of 7.18 according to WhoScored.com. This makes Aurier the club’s third-highest rated player in the Premier League this season, according to WhoScored.
Back in January, Aurier reportedly declared his current Spurs boss one of the “three best managers in the world”, as per The Telegraph, who quote the Ivorian as stating that Mourinho’s trophy record provides evidence of his quality.
Despite allegedly wanting to leave the club “last summer“, Mourinho’s appointment as Spurs boss may have an influence on Aurier’s future at Spurs, considering the right-back’s complimentary words for the Portuguese coach. Additionally, considering that Aurier has featured heavily for the club this term, delivering some impressive performances in the process, Tottenham may try to hold onto the Ivory Coast international, despite the alleged interest from Milan.
