Well, well, well. What a day its been for the Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern following reports emanating out of Spain.
Indeed, life is pretty good as it is right now for our local Lillywhites as Mauricio Pochettino continues to impress in charge of the club, developing one of the most exciting young sides in European football. Now, according to Diario Gol, Spurs are interested in adding a bonafide superstar to their ranks.
According to their transfer report, Tottenham are keen on a sensational move to bring Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale BACK to north London next summer. At that point, he’d have been with Los Blancos for four years, winning three Champions League titles and a La Liga crown during that period.
However, his injury problems appear to be mounting up and the Welshman has been linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea too. While those two clubs may have more financial muscle, this report claims Spurs would be willing to make a big of around €60m, roughly £53.9m, which would be a club record.
Still, the Spanish outlet claim such an offer is ‘ridiculous’ for a player of Bale’s quality, despite his injury issues.
A fully fit Bale would improve any team in Europe, though getting him to that stage is proving increasingly difficult. With Tottenham’s team built largely on balance, perhaps bringing back a superstar would be a bad move.
