Tottenham Hotspur have launched a bid for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi, according to A Spor via @thespursweb.

The Turkish outlet claims Tottenham have made a starting offer worth €5m for the Kosovan, which equates to £4.5m.

However, this is well shy of the Super Lig side's asking price, as they value the star at £22m. He has also been linked with Lazio and Napoli.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a new centre-forward this summer, to provide back-up for Spurs talisman Harry Kane, and give him some healthy competition for a place in the starting lineup.

The Fenerbahce forward has been linked with the Lilywhites for a number of months and is seen by some as the ideal Mourinho frontman.

After arriving at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium for a mere £3.15m last year, Muriqi has put in a string of impressive performances for Zeki Murat Göle's side this season, scoring 13 goals and creating 5 assists in 25 appearances in the Super Lig for the Sarı Lacivertliler so far.

The Portuguese famously used Didier Drogba and Diego Costa to dominate defences during his two spells in charge of Chelsea, with both players relying on their physical presence to great effect, and the Kosovo international has a similar playing style as pointed out on WhoScored who list Aerial Duels as one of his strengths.

Indeed, the striker is more than just a battering ram though, as he often utilised as a wide man for the Kosovan national team, whereas he mostly plays in a central position for the Yellow and Navy Blues.

His versatility and ability to out-muscle defenders sets him apart from Spurs' other transfer targets, including the likes of Victor Osimhen and Arkadiusz Milik.

All things considered, Muriqi would be a shrewd signing to make, as he would be the perfect substitute to Harry Kane, and could even play alongside the England international as an alternative option. As mentioned his physical strength is similar to that of the Ivorian striker, so he could well become Mourinho's new Drogba at Spurs.
