It was reported back in June that Tottenham were keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old as they aim to bolster their squad this summer.
The deal was said to be even more likely due to the fact that the Dane was entering the final year of his contract with FC Nordsjaelland and so the club would be more open to selling him before he leaves on a free next summer.
But after having been given two weeks to make up their mind whether or not to try and sign the player, the Lilywhites decided to not get involved in a bidding war.
The Scandinavian right-winger has an incredibly impressive record for his Danish club having scored 45 goals in 70 games across two seasons.
It has now been over three weeks since Spurs completed their latest signing of the summer – Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for a club-record fee of £53.8million.
Since then, they have been linked with a number of players but so far have been unable to get deals over the line, which could be a worrying sign for Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino – Giovani Lo Celso, Nicolo Zaniolo, Ryan Sessegnon and now Olsen.
With the Dane available at a reported £15m, it seems to be a running trend among all of the north London club’s targets that they are unwilling to spend the money required.
And if Olsen makes the move to Bologna then it is yet another reminder to Levy and Pochettino that they need to get these higher-profile signings over the line or else they risk turning a hotly anticipated transfer window into one which is looked upon as a relative failure.
