Spurs are set to halt their pursuit of transfer target Nicolo Zaniolo as they attempt to press on and secure Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso according to Calcio Mercato.
The offer believed to have been made by Spurs (via Calcio Mercato) was £36million plus the Belgian defender for Zaniolo.
But now a deal seems to be dead in the water as Spurs return their focus towards Lo Celso.
The negotiations for Lo Celso seem to be really dragging, with The Sun claiming that Daniel Levy is playing hard-ball.
But given a deal could still be finalised as we approach August, it seems the correct move for Pochettino and Daniel Levy to turn their attention towards ensuring the Argentine arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Also, Zaniolo has not had a season which proves he has the potential to be a first-team regular at Tottenham.
Although he is only 20 years of age, last season he managed just four goals and two assists in 27 games, compared with the 23-year-old Lo Celso who had an impressive campaign with Betis, contributing 16 goals and six assists in 46 games (Transfermarkt).
And with a squad filled with a number of midfielders and attackers already – Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and potentially Lo Celso – Zaniolo might not be needed.
