Tottenham Hotspur TT Roundup: Danny Rose to stay, Club dealt blow in Memphis Depay pursuit and Spurs interested in Lorenzo Pellegrini

In this instalment of our TT Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Tottenham Hotspur recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.

Rose will run down contract

Danny Rose has confirmed that he will remain at Tottenham Hotspur for the remaining 18 months of his contract, in an interview with the Evening Standard.

Spurs are interested in selling the fullback, however, he has vowed to remain at the club after it was revealed he won’t be offered a new contract.

The north London giants attempted to sell Rose in the summer and even left him out of the pre-season squad touring Asia, however, a move never materialised.

Verdict

Rose showed with his performance away to Liverpool that he is not up to the standard required to play for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Roy Keane blasted him and Serge Aurier for their performancees by labelling them ‘Dumb and Dumber’ (via Sky Sport). And with the acquisition of Ryan Sessegnon, playing time will be limited for the England international.

The club needs to ensure he is sold in the near future as it will save the club money in wages which can be put towards transfers, especially after they spent £850m to build their new stadium.

Spurs interested in Pellegrini

Tottenham are interested in signing Roma attacking midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to Calciomercato.

The club is actively looking to replace Christian Eriksen, whose contract is up at the end of the season, and have already drawn up a list of playmakers with Pellegrini among those short-listed.

Spurs are preparing a bid in the region of £43m and £52m for the winger, who is currently sidelined with a metatarsal fracture, in January.

Verdict

A move for the Italian youngster will be smart from the Lilywhites. The 23-year-old averages more key passes, more dribbles per game than Eriksen, who has struggled to convince this season due to his relative lack of involvement, given that he’s only started 7 games.

He has also contributed four assists in just six Serie A games, showing his ability in creating chances for his teammates. With Spurs scoring just 18 goals in their first 12 league games of the season, creativity is badly needed for Pochettino’s side.

Lyon director confirms Spurs transfer blow

Olympique Lyonnais director of football Juninho has confirmed that Manchester United have first refusal on any deal to sign Memphis Depay from the French club (OLTV via The Independent).

The move comes as a blow to Tottenham, who were scouting the forward ahead of a potential move.

Depay left Old Trafford for the Ligue 1 side back in 2017 for an initial £16m, with the Lyon having to notify the Red Devils if they receive an offer for the Dutchman.

Verdict

Depay may remain a brilliant player, however, with United lacking attacking players in their squad and the player having shown his quality, the Red Devils could very well opt to sign the Netherlands international again.

The 25-year-old has already notched up 11 goals in just 14 appearances for Lyon, with four coming in just four Champions League game. With the player showing such high levels of quality, it would be a real shock to see the Red Devils pass up an opportunity in signing Depay.
