Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are sat flicking peanuts and discussing the potential arrival of a new defender, who they’d welcome with open arms to White Hart Lane.
The Evening Standard states Spurs are considering a £5m swoop for Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, who is free to leave the San Siro this month and has already attracted Premier League interest from West Ham and Hull City.
Tottenham’s position in the market has emerged recently though, with an injury to Jan Vertonghen set to keep the Belgian international out of action for six weeks – potentially handing Spurs a huge blow in their push for a top-four spot.
As such, Mauricio Pochettino is looking at bringing in a new asset and 28-year-old Ranocchia has caught his eye, likely because of the vast experience the Italian provides and the fact he is available for a very small sum of money.
Inter are also open to a loan deal with the option of a permanent sale this summer, which could appeal to Spurs, and our landlord believes that sort of deal would be perfect for the Lilywhites.
A handful of Spurs fans by the jukebox here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t very excited about this deal at all, and see this potential transfer as simply a squad filler, with the player never likely to be a first-team starter week in, week out.
