Tottenham supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last week or so after seeing their side move to within two games of the FA Cup title courtesy of a routine 3-0 success over Swansea City in the last eight.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the South Wales club back on March 17 having edged past AFC Wimbledon, Newport County, and Rochdale in the previous rounds, needing a replay to get past the latter two EFL clubs. Nevertheless, there were no such anxieties for the North London outfit at the Liberty Stadium as a Christian Eriksen brace alongside Erik Lamela’s second goal of the season clinched victory for Pochettino’s side, thus setting up a mouth-watering semi-final clash with Manchester United at Wembley next month.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which hints that their side’s interest in target James Maddison remains intact despite a significant recent update.
The 21-year-old currently plays his trade at Norwich City and has done so since 2016, in which time he has earned 45 appearances for the Canaries, bagging 15 goals and laying on 12 assists along the way.
And with 14 goals and ten assists coming this time round, the England Under-21 star continues to go from strength to strength, to the point that the Norfolk-based outfit have reportedly slapped a £25 million price-tag on the attacker in recent times amid interest from several top Premier League sides.
Yet reports suggest that Spurs aren’t likely to be put off by the high asking-price as they are reportedly ‘always keen’ on landing English talent, and as such it remains to be seen whether Pochettino’s side do indeed make a firm approach for the talented attacker come the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: James Maddison has enjoyed his best season of his career at Norwich City this time round, having bagged 14 goals and laid on ten assists for Daniel Farke’s side in the Championship this term.
As such, the 21-year-old has been attracting interest from several top Premier League sides in the last few months, with Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham one team reportedly keen on the England Under-21 international.
Reports recently suggest that the Canaries have stuck a £25 million asking-price on the attacker’s shoulders in a bid to fend off interest, although reports suggest that Spurs are unlikely to be put off by the figure given their desire to land English players.
Thus, the North London club could well make a formal move for Maddison come the summer.
