Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited to learn the news that the club will be chasing a highly-rated goalkeeper to bring to North London and challenge Hugo Lloris for the number one spot.
The Sun are claiming manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring Sam Johnstone from Manchester United this summer, what with the 25-year-old having performed impressively for Championship side Aston Villa as they look to earn promotion back to the top-flight.
The Villans will want to hold onto him – however, his decision will be based on whether they are playing in the Premier League, and the interest from Spurs could also throw a spanner in the works.
The North London side are thought to be tracking his movements in case current number two Michel Vorm decides he wants to leave and get first team football elsewhere.
The Dutchman’s contract is set to expire in the summer and he has not agreed to an extension to remain at the club, allowing for him to leave on a free transfer.
Landlord’s Verdict: Tottenham fans will be keen to bring in a suitable replacement for Vorm should he leave, and many of the locals in the Tavern believe Johnstone could be a good choice.
The £2.25 million-rated (via Transfermarkt) shot-stopper has proved to be a reliable man between the sticks, and could even in time put pressure on current Spurs number one Hugo Lloris, who hasn’t been in great form in recent times.
