Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash in Turin off the back of beating North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, a result which extended their impressive unbeaten run to 12 matches. But they were made to work very hard to make it 13 on Tuesday night as a Gonzalo Higuain brace gave Juve a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes, only for Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen to net to secure a deserved draw for Spurs, who will now be favourites to get the job done at the national stadium in the return leg in three weeks’ time.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from ESPN, which suggests that their side are keeping tabs on long-term target Steven Bergwijn ahead of a possible move this summer.
The 20-year-old currently plays his trade at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and has done so since coming up through the youth ranks at the club, from which he has since played 69 games for the senior side, netting seven goals and laying on ten assists in the process.
And the young attacker has reportedly been on Spurs’ radar for a while now such have been his impressive efforts in his homeland, and his tally of five goals and six assists this term appears to have intensified that interest as reports suggest that Pochettino’s men are monitoring his progress ahead of a possible move this summer.
And given Pochettino’s recent success with young talent at Tottenham, Bergwijn may well be interested by a possible move to North London this summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Steven Bergwijn has been in impressive form for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven this term, netting five goals and laying on six assists in 22 league games to help the club to top spot in the Eredivisie.
And the 20-year-old has unsurprisingly been attracting interest in recent times, with Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham reportedly keeping tabs on the attacker ahead of a possible move this summer.
And given that the Netherlands Under-21 international has reportedly been on their radar for some time, Bergwijn is clearly a player the North London outfit want, but whether they are able to fend off competition from Everton in the close season very much remains to be seen.
