According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Tottenham are interested in a move for winger Jack Clarke. The 18-year-old currently plays his football at Championship table-toppers Leeds United having come up through the ranks at the Yorkshire giants, with his impressive efforts this term seemingly attracting the interest of Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
And that’s because a recent report from Sky Sports suggests that the North Londoners are eyeing up a move for the young Englishman, with a move to Tottenham potentially paving the way for Clarke to follow in Dele Alli’s footsteps by enjoying a meteoric rise from the EFL to the top of the Premier League.
Ultimately, not even the most optimistic of Tottenham fans would have expected Alli to become a key member of the Spurs first team within six months of arriving from MK Dons back in 2015, but that is exactly what happened as, while he went back on loan to the League One for the rest of the 2014/15 season, he soon made a name for himself in the Premier League later that year.
And that’s because the 22-year-old went on to score ten goals and lay on nine assists in his first full season in the English top-flight, before backing that up with 18 goals the season after in their run to second place under Pochettino, and indeed nine goals last time round as Spurs again qualified for the Champions League.
And with 33 caps for England at senior level, it is quite remarkable just how quickly Alli has risen from excelling in League One to producing the goods for both Tottenham and indeed his country – ultimately, he is now one of the key players in Pochettino’s supremely talented Spurs squad.
And with his value having risen ten-fold during his time at Tottenham, with the Englishman now valued at £90 million by Transfermarkt, Alli is now widely regarded as one of the best young players in world football – there’s a reason Real Madrid have been linked with him in recent times (as per The Daily Mirror).
And a move to Spurs for Clarke could well see him follow a similar path to his compatriot, as like Alli the 18-year-old has shown glimpses of undoubted ability and potential in his first few months at Leeds United.
The winger only made his senior debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side earlier this season in a draw against Brentford back in October, but he has since gone from strength to strength with two goals and two assists in 12 further Championship appearances for the promotion-chasing Whites.
And with appearances in each of their last ten league matches, he’s a player clearly very highly-rated by Bielsa and one he hopes can help his side return to the Premier League this season, that is if they can keep him beyond the January deadline.
Ultimately, Clarke has shown in just a few months at Leeds that he is a player with huge potential and as such could go extremely far in the game – much like Alli did when he was at MK Dons, although how quickly he has ascended up the game has likely come as a surprise to many.
But the same could well happen to 18-year-old Clarke were he to move to Spurs and indeed work under the guidance of Pochettino, whose proven track-record of developing and improving young players into world stars suggests that the Leeds man could follow in the footsteps of Alli were he to join the North Londoners.
