According to The Sun, midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has told La Liga outfit Sevilla that he wants to leave the club this summer. The 29-year-old made the move to the Spanish side back in 2015 and has since enjoyed three fine years at the club, yet it appears that he wants a fresh challenge for the 2018/19 campaign, which should seriously interest Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham as they potentially go in search of a replacement for Mousa Dembele.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 30-year-old Dembele has been linked with a move away from the North Londoners this summer given he only has 12 months left on his current deal with Spurs, and has not as of yet agreed an extension.

And while Pochettino will likely not want to lose one of his most influential stars, it does look increasingly likely that the Belgium international will be on his way out of Tottenham during the close season, which is why they simply must be eyeing up a replacement.

And following reports that N’Zonzi wants out of Sevilla, Pochettino’s side must seek to capitalise by luring the £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) to North London this summer.

The 29-year-old will be most well-known to English football fans for his impressive stints at Blackburn Rovers between 2009 and 2012 and indeed Stoke City between 2012 and 2015, but he has since taken it up another level since moving to Sevilla three years ago.

The France international, part of Didier Deschamps’ extremely talented squad for this summer’s World Cup, helped the Spanish side win the Europa League in his first season back in 2016, with N’Zonzi himself recognised for his efforts by forming part of the Europa League Squad of the Season that term.

And with 90 further appearances for the La Liga outfit in the last two seasons, it’s clear that the Frenchman is an integral part of things at the club, with the 29-year-old extremely adept both with the ball at his feet, and indeed out of possession in breaking up play and protecting the backline.

Yes, replacing Dembele will be tough given how good and effective the Belgian ace is in the heart of Pochettino’s midfield, but N’Zonzi has proven his credentials at the top level in the last few years, and of course knows what it takes to succeed in the Premier League following prior stints at Blackburn and Stoke.

And with the Frenchman reportedly seeking a move away this summer, Tottenham must look to capitalise by luring the 29-year-old to North London, as a possible replacement for linked-away Dembele.
