Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to see their players impressing for England at the World Cup as the Three Lions entered the last eight.

Harry Kane currently leads the race for the World Cup golden boot with six goals already in the tournament. Kieran Trippier is impressing fans and pundits alike at right wing-back, and our regulars were delighted to see Eric Dier slot home the winning penalty against Colombia. However, our punters are concerned to see Dele Alli struggling with injury.

Back home, there have been no new signings at White Hart Lane which is concerning given the spending of their Premier League rivals. Reinforcements are needed if Spurs are to compete for the Premier League title next season. Should Toby Alderweireld leave the club, a new centre-back will need to be signed.

Pochettino needs to think big and make an audacious attempt to sign Eric Bailly from Manchester United. Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the Ivorian is reportedly seeking crunch talks with Jose Mourinho over his future at the club. The Portuguese favoured the centre-back partnership of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling last season leading to uncertainty over Bailly’s future.

Tottenham should take advantage and attempt to lure him to North London. A back line consisting of Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Bailly would no doubt delight the Tottenham faithful. The 24-year-old is quick, strong and great on the ball meaning he would fit right into Pochettino’s system.

It could prove to be Tottenham’s best signing for years.
