Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with their team seeking to improve upon their impressive third place finish last term.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men deserve huge credit for securing a third successive top four finish in English football’s top-flight last time round, having finished third in 2016, second in 2017, and of course third last season. However, the North Londoners eventually ended up a staggering 23 points adrift of champions Manchester City to suggest that a title challenge remains some way off, although some big additions this summer could well see Pochettino’s side bridge the gap to the Citizens this term.

As such, there are many excited and expectant Spurs supporters in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom have been watching the World Cup intently in a bid to identify possible transfer targets for their club in the summer window.

And one man many feel could seriously benefit their side were he to move to North London is Leicester City and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who has reportedly been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent times.

Spurs should also seek to make a move for the in-demand £9 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt), as the Dane could well be the ideal replacement for the unconvincing Hugo Lloris.

Ultimately, the France international, who has started all but one of his country’s matches at this year’s World Cup, didn’t enjoy the best of seasons at Tottenham in making a few costly errors between the sticks – a far cry away from the remarkably solid goalkeeper the 31-year-old has been during his time at Spurs.

But with Michel Vorm the number two at the club, and Pochettino having stuck intently with Lloris last season, it’s clear that the competition simply isn’t there to really push the Frenchman and potentially dispose him of the gloves – Schmeichel’s arrival would provide that competition.

The 31-year-old has become one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent times, not least for Leicester during their incredible title triumph back in 2015/16, in which time the Denmark ace kept 15 clean sheets and shipped just 35 goals to help Claudio Ranieri’s men to the best defensive record in the league.

And while the level of most of his Leicester teammates dropped the season after, Schmeichel continued to produce the goods in keeping 14 clean sheets in all competitions for the Foxes, playing a key part in their remarkable run to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

And while Denmark were knocked out of the World Cup a few days ago, losing on penalties to Croatia on Sunday, the 31-year-old certainly did his best in keeping two clean sheets in their four games, including two penalty saves in the shootout against the Croatians in the last 16 to further enhance his mightily impressive shot-stopping abilities.

Thus, with question marks surrounding the capabilities of Lloris after an underwhelming season last time round, Pochettino’s men should seek to join the race for in-demand Schmeichel in a bid to potentially replace the unconvincing Frenchman.
