Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to make signings before the window closes this month but many are concerned by one report.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side seem intent on bolstering their defensive ranks before the end of the summer transfer window, particularly at right-back following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City and the loss of Nathaniel Clyne to injury.
Kyle Walker-Peters impressed in Spurs’ victory over Newcastle United at the weekend but Pochettino is aware that his side needs significant depth if they are to balance their quest for glory in the Premier League with their involvement on the European stage.
As such, the Lilywhites are amongst a number of names to be linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Serge Aurier and L’Equipe stated this week that the Ivorian full-back had agreed terms with the North London side.
In usual circumstances, landing the services of a fairly young player who has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea would signify a major coup for Pochettino’s men but this simply isn’t one of those times.
Aurier has plenty of baggage that he would bring with him to North London, following a fall-out with current manager Unai Emery, a court-case in France that left him unable to travel to the UK last season and plenty of other controversial incidents.
Spurs have a tight-knitted bunch currently at the club and morale is crucial for their quest to push forward and end the long wait for a major trophy but Aurier could disrupt everything that the North London giants have worked so hard for in recent years.
