Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been the targets for jokes from Spurs fans all day as it has become clear that the London side are now favourites to land a World Cup winning Liverpool target.
One of our scouse punters has noticed reports in the Liverpool Echo today that the Reds have dropped out of the race to sign Mario Gotze, leaving the door wide open for Tottenham to further their interest.
It is understood that Gotze is set to leave Bayern Munich this summer having failed to force his way into the first team since moving from Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side in 2013.
With Liverpool having completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton already this summer, the Liverpool Echo are reporting that Klopp is now happy with his attacking options, meaning that Spurs can press on with their £20m deal for the 24-year-old.
The Germany international, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, has struggled to re-discover the scintillating form that prompted Bayern to bring him to the Allianz Arena. However, under the guidance of Pochettino, a manager who has a history of bringing the best out of attacking players, Gotze could become a real threat once again.
Spurs fans, we want to hear from you! Do you think the Gotze would do well under Pochettino, or are there better options for £20m? Let us know below…
