Tottenham Hotspur will be wanting to strengthen this summer, and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited by the reports linking them with a highly-rated talent.
Spurs will want to rebuild their squad as they look to compete across all competitions next season, and manager Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be active in the transfer market. It has been rumoured that he may have to sell a number of his players to fund some of his planned targets – however, one name he is being linked with will not command a fee.
And that’s because The Gambling Times are reporting that the White Hart Lane outfit are interested in Max Mayer, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the season. The 22-year-old has had a difficult time at Schalke 04 in recent times, with him being banished to the reserve side after falling out with the management at the Bundesliga outfit.
Mayer, who has claimed he is being bullied by the club, is thought to have a number of suitors interested in bringing him to the Premier League, with fellow heavyweights Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea all believed to be considering options, as well as Pochettino’s Spurs.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Spurs locals in the Tavern will be excited with the reports linking them with the wantaway 22-year-old, especially considering he will be available on a free.
However, they aren’t getting their hopes up just yet given the number of teams they will need to compete with to land the £18 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt).
