Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see their side get going this season but they do wish they’d have signed some players before now.
The men from White Hart Lane were chief title challengers to Chelsea last season and pushed the Blues right towards the end of the campaign before finishing second.
They did, at least, finish in the Champions League spots and that is why, for many, they need more players – given how poorly they did in that particular competition last time out.
Indeed, whilst Spurs fans think their squad is one of the strongest in the league they do still think a couple of incomings would have been handy by now but there is at least some time to still do business.
Who comes in, then, remains to be seen but, according to The Sun, Ljubomir Fjesa could be coming in from Benfica.
This would be a rather unexpected deal, then, but Mauricio Pochettino does have a knack of bringing in relatively unknown players and making them excel.
The main man behind the bar has been mulling this one over, meanwhile, and so here’s our landlord’s verdict:
Tottenham obviously have a strong squad but with all their title challengers looking to strengthen and signing players, you do feel that they need some extra players themselves.
Of course, it’s admirable that they don’t want to spend lots of money in order to improve the team and Fjesa would surely not cost that much either.
He’d some experience and steel at the heart of Spurs’ midfield – and European experience – and that is clearly where Mauricio Pochettino feels that he needs to bolster most of all in his team.
