Spurs fans here in the Tavern are relieved after their last-gasp winner against Crystal Palace, a victory that takes them into the Champions League places.
Tottenham struggled to find a way past a resolute Crystal Palace defence in what was a closely contested London derby yesterday, but late heroics from Harry Kane saved the day as he carried on his rich vein of goalscoring form. Although, with all the interest filtering in from Spain for the 24-year-old, the Lilywhites are beginning to weigh up their options elsewhere, as according to reports in the Sun, Tottenham want to mould Sheffield United’s David Brooks into the new Harry Kane.
Spurs are currently negotiating with the Blades for the starlet and hope to agree a deal worth around £10 million plus extras. Indeed, he’s a player that’s caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino after enjoying his breakthrough season at Bramall Lane, but will arrive with high expectations after witnessing Harry Kane’s rise to stardom.
The Lilywhites are convinced that Brooks is a star in the making and have the aim of developing him into the long-term replacement for Harry Kane, something that could potentially pile heaps of pressure on the youngster. But, it’s fair to say that the forward has already displayed moments of brilliance at Championship level, as an impact substitute who’s managed to produce two goals and four assists so far this season.
David Brooks appears to be one of the brightest young prospects in the Championship, with his performances this season outshining some of the best players in the division. Although, with Spurs potentially already eyeing him up as a long-term replacement for Harry Kane, it’s beginning to worry some of our local residents as an exit could be edging closer.
