This summer has been a pretty quiet affair for the Tottenham Hotspur fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern thus far.
After pushing Chelsea all the way last term, the local Lillywhites in our bar were desperately hoping to see Mauricio Pochettino significantly add to his ranks ahead of what could be a third title challenge in a row.
Now, while their appetites are yet to be satisfied, reports from the Daily Star claim the club are trying to make moves on that front.
They claim Spurs have opened talks with Real Madrid over a potential move for midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Reportedly rated at £22m, the former Inter Milan has struggled to wholly impose himself onto first-team proceedings in the Spanish capital since joining the club in the summer of 2015.
Though he’s won the Champions League twice since joining, the 23-year-old is largely on the periphery of the starting XI at the Santiago Bernabeu and Tottenham are understood to believe the allure of a starting berth could prove a tempting prospect.
A hugely talented midfielder, the Croatian international would certainly be a popular addition, as the club prepare for life at Wembley.
