Tottenham made history in the summer by not signing a single player during the transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino decided to keep his chequebook closed despite his Premier League rivals strengthening significantly. Spurs have made a decent start to the Premier League but have struggled so far in the Champions League. The Lilywhites face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages after failing to beat PSV Eindhoven.
In order to catch their rivals, Spurs need to splash the cash in the January window. Pochettino can’t afford to lose ground in what could be one of the closest title races in recent seasons. One man he could look to sign is Bayer Leverkusen sensation – Leon Bailey.
Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, the Jamaica international made a name for himself in the Belgium league with Genk, earning himself a move to Europe when Leverkusen won the race for his signature. Bailey enjoyed a terrific season in the Bundesliga last year, scoring nine goals and registered six assists. However, with his role being reduced this campaign, reports suggest that Bailey is far from happy at the club and will look to leave during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old would be a fantastic addition to Tottenham’s squad and give them another dimension in attack. Bailey is blessed with electrifying pace as well as expert dribbling ability which makes him a nightmare for defenders to deal with. His arrival would help lessen the creative burden on Christian Eriksen and could result in even more goals for Harry Kane.
Landing one of Europe’s hottest prospects in the New Year would be a massive statement of intent to their Premier League rivals.
