Tottenham’s stunning 4-0 win at Wembley against Everton on Saturday absolutely delighted our punters. Indeed, the sight of seeing Harry Kane break their all-time Premier League goalscoring record made them even happier.
The fact that both Arsenal and Chelsea failed to win also kept our local Lillywhites in a good mood, so it’s been a good weekend for those up Wembley Way. Well, the good news hasn’t stopped today, despite the fact we’re now into the dreaded Monday morning.
That’s because, according to the Daily Mirror’s transfer blog last night at 20:39, Spurs are closing in on their first January signing. Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot is understood to have been tracked by the likes of Southampton and Liverpool after impressing for the Hertfordshire outfit in League Two this season, though the report claims Tottenham are ‘set’ to win the race for him.
Usually, the notion of signing a young defender from the lower leagues wouldn’t cause too much excitement in our bar, though Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of developing young and English talent makes anything possible for Wilmot, should he move to Spurs.
Wilmot has looked assured for the Boro so far this season and the success of Dele Alli when moving up the leagues must excite Tottenham supporters. Perhaps Wilmot will have to wait for his chance, considering the strength of Spurs’ current backline, though it’s promising to see the recruitment department not resting on their laurels when it comes to young players.
