Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the new Premier League season, what with manager Mauricio Pochettino having signed a new long-term deal with the club over the summer.
The 46-year-old made the move to North London back in 2014 after impressing in a short stint in charge of Southampton, and he has since taken Spurs to another level by leading them to three straight top four finishes in the Premier League. And although the Argentinian has yet to deliver a trophy during his four-year spell in charge, there is genuine belief among our resident Tottenham fans that he will be the man to do just that in the coming years.
As such, there are many positive Spurs supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports linking midfielder Mousa Dembele with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan.
And as part of a possible deal to take the 30-year-old to the San Siro, Tottenham simply must demand Inter’s £36 million-rated Ivan Perisic (as per Transfermarkt) as part of any potential deal.
Ultimately, Belgium international Dembele has been a hugely influential figure for Spurs in the last few years, not least in forming a formidable central midfield partnership with Victor Wanyama in helping Pochettino’s side finish second in the Premier League back in 2017.
And on many occasions this term, not least in the Champions League clash with Juventus, Dembele has shown his class in orchestrating and dominating proceedings in the middle of the park – ultimately, he’d be a huge loss to Pochettino if he was to leave this summer.
And while Croatia international Perisic is obviously not an exact replacement for the midfielder, he’d bring greater quality and skill to the attacking ranks at Tottenham to make them even stronger and lethal in the final third of the pitch.
The 29-year-old made the move to Inter back in 2015 and has since proven to be one of the most influential attackers in Italian football, with the forward bagging 11 goals and laying on 11 assists this term to help the club to a fourth place finish in Serie A.
And with exactly the same figures last time round as well, it’s clear that the Croatian star is a hugely adept attacker and one that could make a big difference to this Spurs side going forward, with it clear that he’ll be an upgrade on Argentina international Erik Lamela.
And with Christian Eriksen having played slightly deeper at times this season, he could be the man to replace Dembele in the middle of the park in the future, thus opening the door for someone to wrestle control of one of those attacking positions behind Harry Kane – Perisic could be that man.
Thus, given how much of a loss it would be to Tottenham to lose Dembele this summer, they simply must demand the 29-year-old as part of any potential deal for the Belgian ace during the close season.
