The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Taven are already discussing exactly who they should sign over the course of the summer in an attempt to further strengthen their squad. Though Mauricio Pochettino and his men are still very much in the battle to finish in the top four this season, the manner in which they exited the Champions League to Juventus has our local Lillywhites obsessing about how best to improve in that competition.
Few would doubt the fact that Spurs have one of the best starting XIs in Europe and are largely only missing experience at the top level to truly compete, though the punters propping up our bar are eager for more exciting signings. With that in mind, while he’d do little to bring much in the way of experience to the squad, Tottenham should consider a move for West Brom winger Olivier Burke.
The Scotland international is understood to have previously rejected a move to north London in favour of a move to RB Leipzig, though it didn’t really work out for him there. A wonderful talent, Burke has made some questionable career choices during his early years – such as his move to West Brom – though clearly possesses a lorry load of natural ability.
Ridiculously direct, Burke can add so much to this Tottenham side. Comparisons to a young Gareth Bale may sound wide of the mark, though Burke’s bulldozing style of play is somewhat reminiscent of the Welshman, whether or not Burke ever reaches those levels.
Landing an adequate back-up for Harry Kane is proving more difficult than expected for Spurs so Pochettino and Daniel Levy should look to wider areas to truly add some more firepower to their ranks. Burke may not be a natural starter, though can develop under Pocehttino’s watch and really prove just what a player he can be.
Valued at just £10.8m by Transfermakrt, Spurs shouldn’t pass up this potential opportunity.
