Tottenham are set to fast-track 17-year-old striker Troy Parrott to the first-team, as he continues to impress manager Mauricio Pochettino in training, via Football Insider.
The young Irishman could be handed his first competitive start for the north Londoners when Spurs take on League Two side Colchester in the EFL Cup at the end of the month.
According to Football Insider, Parrott has been travelling with the first-team squad this season as their ’19th man’ in the case of any last-minute injuries or illnesses, though he is yet to be officially named in Pochettino’s 18-man matchday squad.
The teenager has been a prolific goalscorer for the club’s Under-23s and Under-18s in recent seasons, per Football Insider, and has been training with the first-team squad since the turn of the year. Should he continue to impress for the development side and in training, it is likely he will start to become more integrated into the first-team fold at Tottenham.
Parrott was among seven young players to be included in Pochettino’s pre-season plans, alongside midfielders Jack Roles, Harvey White, George Marsh and Jamie Bowden, winger Anthony Georgiou and goalkeeper Brandon Austin.
The Republic of Ireland youth international, in the words of Football Insider, is a rising star at Spurs, and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of 18-year-old midfielder Oliver Skipp, who has now made 14 senior appearances for the north London side, registering two assists.
With Harry Kane now the only recognised out-and-out striker at Spurs following the departure of Fernando Llorente this summer, Parrott has a great chance to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season if he continues to work hard.
Should he impress if handed a start against Colchester, supporters could begin to see his name included in the Argentinian’s matchday squad more and more, just like fellow teenager Skipp, who has been an unused sub twice already this term.
