Tottenham Hotspur are eager to sign Barcelona right-back Emerson this summer, according to Diario de Sevilla via @RickSpur

Earlier this year, Spanish media claimed that Emerson has attracted attention from a number of top European clubs, including the likes of Spurs, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

However, Diario de Sevilla reports that Daniel Levy has enquired about the full-back's availability as the Lilywhites are considering making a bid in the upcoming transfer window amid further interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Real Betis, where he has made 23 appearances in La Liga, scoring three goals, supplying five assists, making 2.1 tackles per game, averaging 1.7 clearances and successfully completing 1.5 dribbles on average (via WhoScored).

He can take up position in defence or midfield on the right flank and his versatility could be an added benefit for Jose Mourinho's side, as he poses a threat both in attack and defensively.

Spurs' first-choice right-back Serge Aurier has copped a fair amount of criticism for a series of high-profile blunders off the pitch and his future at the club remains uncertain. On the other hand, Kyle Walker-Peters is considered surplus to requirements and Mourinho is in the market for a suitable replacement.

Indeed, Emerson has earned himself a solid statistical rating of 6.84, which is just slightly below Aurier's WhoScored rating at 7.16 overall. Given his young age, he could turn out to be a shrewd investment in the future.

Admittedly, the Brazilian is valued at £16.2m via Transfermarkt and it is unclear if Levy will be willing to splash the cash, given the economic uncertainty surrounding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. If he is, he could do a lot worse than put some of it towards Emerson.
