Tottenham: These fans were pleasantly surprised with Serge Aurier’s display against West Ham

Many Tottenham fans expressed satisfaction and a bit of surprise at the performance of Serge Aurier this afternoon.
The Ivorian right-back had come under fire from some Spurs supporters earlier this month, along with being pilloried as “a car crash” by Roy Keane on Sky Sports following the defeat to Liverpool in October (as per The Sun).
However, the 26-year-old put in a very effective display in today’s 3-2 win away to West Ham, delivering the cross from which Harry Kane scored the visitors’ third goal at London Stadium in Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge. [via Sky Sports]
Aurier had more touches of the ball (84) than any other Tottenham player on the day and recorded the most successful dribbles (five) of anyone on the pitch. [via WhoScored]
Some reporters commended his display in east London, with James Benson of the Daily Express praising his “energetic performance” and Football London‘s Alasdair Gold writing that he “dealt with West Ham’s limp wing play down his flank comfortably”.
These Tottenham fans on Twitter were left pleasantly surprised by Aurier’s performance in the win over West Ham:

Looking for differences in play under Mourinho. First thing he seems to have done is kidnapped Aurier and replaced him with a lookalike who plays much better. #coys

#bbcfootball #coys shows what a change of manager can do. Serge Aurier looked like a different player, we’ve got rid of Dele’s brother and got Dele back, and Son and Lucas were always dangerous. Spurs had real signs of the top 4 team we know they are

Only Jose can make aurier into a prime Lahm

I already feel like Aurier is being reborn as a top defensive fullback. Not perfect today by any means but he kept possession well, got the assist and played some nice passes. Defending was definitely an improvement and neither goal conceded was his fault.
