The Tottenham fans within the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their first season in their new stadium, although they fear the team isn’t quite up to the same standard as the amazing 60,000+ seater.
Tottenham would argue that this season was successful as they still remain in the top four meaning the new stadium will accommodate Champions League football. With that in mind, new and improved squad additions should be made this summer, with one being Bayer Leverkusen’s Wendell, who is valued at £16.2 million on Transfermarkt.
The left-back could be the perfect replacement for the likely outgoing Danny Rose, who has struggled to keep his place within the team at parts this season. Without the Englishman in the left-back spot, Tottenham have found Ben Davies to be an adequate replacement, although the arrival of Wendell would certainly up the all-round quality at the back.
The 24-year-old this season has played in 30 games, scoring 3 times and also assisting three times. The Brazilian loves to get forward and join the attack as well as performing his defensive duties for the team, something that Tottenham would have been very grateful for at times this season.
Wendell is equipped with terrific pace, has a good cross on him and has a talent from free-kicks. As Bayer Leverkusen have utilised this season, he can also play as a centre-back because with his pace, he has the ability to cover other defenders should they make a mistake. Tottenham are now looking to stop being the team that just puts the pressure on because they want to be champions of England also. The signing of Wendell alone wouldn’t bring the Premier League title to London but it would certainly put Spurs in a better place to do so in the future.
