The Tottenham Hotspur supporters who frequent the Transfer Tavern in their droves are amongst the chirpiest. Indeed, life is pretty good in north London right now as Mauricio Pochettino’s men continue to impress both home and abroad.
Under the Argentine, Spurs have assembled one of the most exciting teams in Europe, packed full of top-level talent, largely coached to their very best by the former Southampton coach. So, suggestions they are keen on signing one of Europe’s very best players have actually proved rather divisive.
According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham are one of three Premier League parties interested in Gareth Bale, whose constant injury problems have led to suggestions Real Madrid could get rid of him. The Welshman left White Hart Lane for a then-world record fee back in 2013 of course, since winning three Champions League and a La Liga titles with Los Blancos.
Obviously, a fully fit Bale would improve almost any team in the world, though the Tottenham fans here would rather see the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane continue to develop without a bonafide superstar complicating matters.
Pochettino is understood to be a ‘confirmed admirer’ of the 28-year-old, however, and Spurs are reportedly battling the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea should their former favourite become available.
Bale back to Tottenham is an interesting notion. Clearly, there are few better attackers in the world when he’s at full pet, but getting him to that stage is proving difficult right now.
With Spurs reaping the rewards of developing young players, it’s hard to see where he fits in right now.
