Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are relishing the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with their team seeking to improve upon their impressive third place finish last time round.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men deserve huge credit for securing a third successive top four finish in the English top-flight, having finished third back in 2016, second in 2017, and of course third last time round. However, a title challenge still seems a way off given the North Londoners ended up 23 points adrift of champions Manchester City last term, although some big additions this summer could well help them bridge the gap to Pep Guardiola’s side this time round.
Consequently, there are many excited and expectant Spurs fans around the country, several of whom are wondering whether a youngster from the club’s development squad or Under-18 side will breakthrough into Pochettino’s first team this season.
And one man several feel is destined to be a Tottenham regular, whether that is this term or in campaigns to come, is 19-year-old wonderkid Kazaiah Sterling.
The striker initially began his youth career at Leyton Orient before Spurs signed him back in July 2015, and he has since gone from strength to strength with a remarkable amount of goals for the club’s Under-18 and Under-23 teams.
Last term alone saw the former England Under-18 international score eight goals in 20 Premier League 2 appearances for the club’s development squad, helping them to a ninth place finish in the table, while he also bagged three goals in their UEFA Youth League campaign.
Add in the 12 goals he scored for the club’s youth sides the season before, and it’s pretty clear that Sterling is destined for huge things in the game – remarkably, he already has a Champions League appearance to his name having come on in their 3-0 success over Apoel Nicosia back in December 2017.
And with a place on the substitute’s bench in their defeat to City in the Premier League back in April, it’s clear how highly he is thought-of at the North London club, and given Pochettino’s track record of nurturing young talent, he could be set for an extremely bright future as a Tottenham regular.
