There’s some excitement among Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern today after Mirror Football reported that Andre Villas-Boas is trying to bring Brazilian wonderkid Bernard to White Hart Lane while also lining up a move for Fulham midfielder Alex Kacaniklic this summer.
Bernard has been watched by Premier League scouts since emerging on the scene with Atletico Minerio and despite recently celebrating his 20th birthday, he has already received two international caps for Brazil and featured as a late substitute in the recent high profile friendly draw against England at the renovated Maracana.
The attacking midfielder is also attracting attention from Germany with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund thought to be interested in landing the teenager and Spurs may have to outbid the Germans – who are looking to replace Bayern Munich departed Mario Gotze – to secure Bernard.
Spurs know they need to make a statement of intent in the summer transfer market and Villas-Boas is eager to add exciting attacking players to ensure that in-demand Gareth Bale remains with the club.
The White Hart Lane outfit are also considering a surprise move for Fulham winger Alex Kacaniklic. The 21-year-old Swedish international should be available for around £7 million with cash-strapped Fulham seeking to create additional funds.
They want Kacaniklic in a straight cash deal or could be tempted to use Tom Huddlestone as part exchange in any such transfer.
