Tottenham Hotspur may have lost against Liverpool, but Paulo Gazzaniga put in a heroic effort for the team to ensure things stayed close.
Despite Harry Kane having scored after just 47 seconds, Spurs ended up seeing very little of the ball, keeping just 31.7% of the game’s overall possession, as per WhoScored.
The goalkeeper, standing in for the injured Hugo Lloris, was able to repel the majority of Liverpool’s efforts, but was just unable to cling onto a result for the team.
The Argentinian made an incredible 12 saves during the game’s duration, with eight of those coming from efforts inside the box, as per SofaScore.
His best save of the day was arguably the one that denied Trent Alexander-Arnold’s bullet strike from the edge of the box, as shown in the highlights video on the Sky Sports YouTube channel.
In addition, he made two high claims, while he also managed to make one key pass, which led to a big chance being created.
These contributions led to the goalkeeper being named Man of the Match by SofaScore with a rating of 9.2.
It perhaps shows how good his performance was, that it eventually took a penalty for Liverpool to finally edge their way into the lead in the 75th minute, following all the pressure they had put on the Spurs defence during the game.
Gazzaniga may have been on the losing side, but he can certainly take confidence from this performance, as he continues to stand in throughout Lloris’ absence.
