Tottenham Hotspur appear to be in pole position to secure the services of the young, up and coming Donny van de Beek.
According to a report by Calcio Mercato, the North London club is eager to sign the midfielder from Ajax Amsterdam after starring for the Dutch club in recent seasons. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are reportedly looking offer the 21-year-old a move to the England capital for next season with the hope of adding some firepower to his current midfield.
Spurs have had a mediocre start to the season and are far from where they want to be in terms of performances, although they are just of the pace of the Premier League top four. Van de Beek, on the other hand, has been in excellent form for Ajax this season, playing a key part to their strong Champions League campaign to date.
18 goals and 11 assists since making his debut for the club’s first-team in 2015 earned him his first cap for the Dutch national team at the end of last year, going on to represent his country on four more occasions.
The midfielder’s versatility has made him quite a threat as an attacking option, although he can play as a central midfielder as well.
His addition to the Spurs squad could be a significant one if Pochettino’s charges continue to put in less than convincing performances as the season progresses. A new player in the heart of the squad’s attack could be just what the team needs to start firing again and could be a good provider for the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
