Tottenham Hotspur had another quiet transfer window in January and did not manage to strengthen ahead of the latter stage of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino did not manage to bring in any new faces, but Mousa Dembele moved to China, with Kazaiah Sterling and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou going to Sunderland and Monaco on loan respectively.
Pochettino has a way of getting the best from the players at his disposal, but there will be two players who must be disappointed that they did not get a move away from North London in January…
Vorm has been third-choice goalkeeper ever since Hugo Lloris returned from injury earlier in the season. Vorm played twice in that time and Spurs lost both times. Paulo Gazzaniga played twice in that time and Spurs won both, keeping a clean sheet in the process so it is the latter who now has the number two spot.
If Vorm is still eager for regular first-team football at 35, he must have been frustrated to not move on from Spurs and return to frequent appearances elsewhere.
Vorm’s fellow Dutchman, Janssen, had suffered a long-term injury last year and only began to return to football, playing for the U23s at the start of this year.
The 24-year-old is still yet to return to the first-team in the absence of Harry Kane, meaning Fernando Llorente is the only natural number nine for the time being.
If Janssen is not to play for the remainder of the campaign if he is fit, he must feel disappointed that he was not able to move from North London in January to try to recapture the form that persuaded Spurs to bring him to the capital in the first place.
