Walter Benitez could shine at Tottenham’s new stadium

Tottenham fans will be pleased to see Hugo Lloris return to his best in recent weeks following a shaky start to the season.

The World Cup winner started the campaign with a handful of errors that cost his side dearly in both the Premier League and Champions League. The 31-year-old has been a mainstay between the sticks for a number of years now, but his form suggested that his time at the highest level could be coming to an end. Nevertheless, Lloris has quickly rediscovered his best form in recent weeks, helping Tottenham reach the knockout stages of the Champions League against all the odds.

Despite his improved performances, Mauricio Pochettino should still be searching for a long-term replacement with Michel Vorm not getting any younger. After signing no-one during the summer transfer window, the Argentine will have plenty of funds to play with when the window reopens in less than a month.

An ideal successor could be Nice goalkeeper – Walter Benitez. Valued at just £3.15m by Transfermarkt, the shot-stopper endured a difficult campaign last year, missing out on Argentina’s World Cup squad, but has been reinvigorated under Patrick Vieira. The goalkeeper is a key reason that the Ligue 1 side were able to improve their fortunes following a poor start to the campaign.

The 25-year-old has looked unbeatable between the sticks at times, keeping seven consecutive clean sheets in Ligue 1. Thanks to his excellent reflexes, Benitez is known for amazing saves that rescue his team from danger. Alisson Becker has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances since joining Liverpool, and the Brazilian is the only man to average a better save percentage in Europe’s top five leagues this season (Opta).

The Argentine is improving with every game, linking up with his countryman Pochettino in the Premier League could be a great move for both all involved.
