The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a tweet from their experienced central-defender, Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian played 90 minutes for his country as Roberto Martinez’ side ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Saudi Arabia. Spurs fans will be hoping they can see their man back in a Tottenham shirt as soon as possible in the coming weeks.

Toby Alderweireld has been the name on a number of Spurs fans lips for a number of months now. Since the defender came into the club from Atletico Madrid, Spurs have been a different side. He’s currently in his third season with the club after helping Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League in consecutive seasons for the first time in Premier League history. However, injury and a break down in contract talks have marred the 29-year-old’s third year at Spurs as the club have had to do without him for a number of games.
Alderwiereld pulled up with an injury at Wembley with the scores at 0-0 between Tottenham and Real Madrid last year in the Champions League group stages. The Belgian had to be subbed before half-time as Spurs went on to beat the reigning European Champions 3-1 in one of Tottenham’s best results in recent memory. As well as the injury, Alderweireld has been unable to agree to terms with the Spurs hierarchy over a new deal, as the club are unwilling to break their strict wage structure that prevents any player earning more than £100,000 per week. Spurs fans will be hoping some sort of agreement can be reached between the player and the club as they hope to see their big number four light up N17 in years to come.
