Anastasios Kantoutsis is the latest young player to be linked with a move to White Hart Lane, according to SkySports.com
A real unknown even by modern standards, the name is ringing around the minds of most connected with the game and invariably producing the same question: ‘who the hell is he?’
‘Tasos’ Kantoutsis represented his home nation of Greece this year in the qualifying for the U17 World Cup, playing every minute of every game. Ultimately, Greece fell short of the finals, but Kantoutsis assisted his team to 3 clean sheets during the qualifying. Limited information available on him suggests he is an aerial monster already even at the young age of 17.
Standing at approximately 6″2 and already weighing in around 12 stone, you can easily forecast what kind of a centre-back he is going to be.
You can never be sure what to make of these raw prospects, but his performances in the U17 qualifying suggest his heading skills are in the top tier for his age and he really puts the effort into his performances. Strength will come naturally to a young man of his size and weight, so perhaps the comparisons to Sotiris Kyrgiakos are just around the corner.
What is your opinion on the prospective signing of this young Greek defender? Is looking at the future always a good thing or do you believe Harry Redknapp should be focussing his efforts elsewhere?
