Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen eased them into the last 16 with goals from Younes Kaboul, Luka Modric and Peter Crouch.
It took just six minutes to open the deadlock as Kaboul volleyed home Aaron Lennon’s cut back from the byline. The outstanding Modric cleverly fired in number two on the stroke of half-time as Spurs were in cruise control.
Gareth Bale struck the woodwork twice, one of which was a stunning free-kick that left Tim Wiese rooted to the ground. Lennon showed everyone he actually has a final ball as he claimed his second assist of the night, teeing up Crouch to slot in to seal the win.
Many of the players shone on a momentous night at the Lane which now leaves them just a win off claiming top spot ahead of reigning champions Inter Milan. The likes of Bale, Lennon played very well and the partnership of Gallas and Kaboul also blossomed but my man of the match goes to Luka Modric.
He started in a deeper role alongside Jermaine Jenas where he picked the ball up from deep and sprayed it around the pitch. The introduction of Wilson Palacios however, allowed him to get forward and make further impact on the game.
His goal was outstanding, the confidence he showed to bring the ball down and slam the ball in was world class. He bossed the midfield and every attack he was involved in. The Spurs wingers were heavily involved in attacks with the service of the Croatian who showed exactly why Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him.
Performances from players like Modric will definitely keep Tottenham in with a chance of Champions League glory and it will help push them up the league table going into the busy Christmas period.
