Why Spurs don’t actually need to buy this summer

Tottenham fans down in the Transfer Tavern need not worry about their club’s lack of activity this summer.

Spurs are yet to recruit a new player to Wembley Stadium, their temporary home, but not signing anyone could work in their favour.

We saw last season that Mauricio Pochettino has already assembled a squad capable of challenging for the league and we should expect no different this time around. England defender Kyle Walker has departed for Manchester City in a £53m move, but Poch has succeeded in maintaining the rest of last season’s performers.

Spurs are a side that heavily rely on work rate and team ethic, which means a lot of their strengths come off the ball. This philosophy and gelling of players takes time for Pochettino to instill and new signings would have to adapt to the Argentine’s approach.

However, the current squad know the tactics, their best selection and the best system to suit them. If anything, Tottenham could get the jump on their rivals in the early going as their opposition become familiar with their new teammates.

One thing that could upset the flow is playing at Wembley. The national stadium has provided some dismal experiences of late and Pochettino will need to set things right on that front if he wants a title charge this season.
