The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a scare over the future of their 30-year-old midfielder, Mousa Dembele. Whilst speaking to Belgian paper La Derniere Heure (via The Daily Mail) Dembele admitted that this campaign could be his last at Spurs and has said he’ll leave his options open and assess his options after the World Cup.
The news has shaken a number of the Spurs fans propping up our bar as they could be set to lose two-thirds of their club’s Belgian contingent in Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele in the summer. The North London club have a strict wage structure, preventing any player from earning over £100,000 per week. Whilst Dembele has not caused any previous problems over his contract, he’s earned plaudits from club’s all over Europe for his dominant displays and was named man of the match in Turin during Spurs Champions League tie against Juventus.
Mousa Dembele joined Tottenham from Fulham back in 2012 and after going through a tough start to his Spurs career he’s become a real fan favourite under Mauricio Pochettino. The Belgian is more than a handful to play against as his ability to glide past players with the ball and retain possession in even the tightest situations has made him one of the Lilywhites’ greatest assets. The worry for Tottenham fans is that Dembele will have an excellent World Cup in summer and leave North London upon his return, although with the club heading into a transition stage and moving to a new stadium, it would be a surprise to see Dembele leave so soon.

He also said he could sign a new deal. Panic for panic's sake.

No one is leaving boys relax! We have a new stadium so we can be calm at least for this window!

I think it’s a stretch to take that away from the article. He said he and the club mutually agreed not to discuss a deal during the season. I have a hard time seeing Poch letting him go during this crucial period for the club.
