Tottenham’s defence would be far better if this player was permanently dropped – agreed?

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been awfully quiet over the last couple of days. Despite high levels of optimism ahead of their side’s clash with Man City, the Lilywhites seriously struggled to leave their mark on the game, and Pep Guardiola’s men never looked likely to lose.

A 4-1 demolition was a real eye-opener for our resident Lilywhites, with many now recognising the deficiencies in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Nobody has been able to avoid some criticism over the last few days, but one man that has earned more than most is Kieran Trippier. He seriously struggled against the Citizens, and his performance has left fans demanding one thing: they want to see him permanently dropped from the first team.

Their reasoning is pretty simple. It all boils down to his form, and frankly, it hasn’t been very good for a long time now. When he initially took over from Kyle Walker last term, he looked impressive. He offered a lot going forward, and defensively he was strong. Now, though, the same cannot be said. He’s seriously struggled going forward, offering next to nothing in the attack, whilst his defensive quality appears to have vanished completely. He was exploited on more than one occasion on Saturday, and that isn’t what Spurs need.

What makes his involvement in the first team even more baffling is that Mauricio Pochettino also has Serge Aurier to call upon. The Frenchman has been decent since moving to London, and it makes little sense that he isn’t a starter already. He’s clearly the future of the right-back spot at Spurs, and so it would make sense for him to start every week. It’s going to be very difficult for him to really impress when he isn’t given a run of games, and so at this point, Pochettino is cutting off his nose to spite his face.

It’s time for Pochettino to drop Trippier permanently – agreed?
