According to Italian website Sportmediaset, Tottenham are interested in signing Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen.

The 22-year-old Dane has also attracted interest from Italian giants Inter Milan, after a brilliant start to the Serie A season, being a member of the team that has conceded the fewest goals.

This is yet another defender that has joined Tottenham's wish list, alongside the well documented interest in Bournemouth defender Nathan Aké and Man United's Eric Bailly.

These will undoubtedly be fantastic additions to Mauricio Pochettino's side, however, fans should start to worry about what this means to their current crop of defenders. With a cloud constantly hanging over star centre-back Toby Alderweireld's head, this could be a foreboding sign of what is to come for The Lilywhites.

The club may well be resigned to the fact that the Belgian is on his way out, and are already scouting the next player, or players, to replace him. Spurs may well know something that has not gone public yet, and are doing everything in their power to have a back up for when Alderweireld departs.

Of course, this may seem pessimistic, but for a side that did not see it necessary to purchase a single player over the summer, this sudden interest in a host of defenders will raise some eyebrows.

Alderweireld's contract expires at the end of this season, and the club will be torn between getting an entire season out of him, or making money from his sale in January. Neither will be options that the fans or the club will want to face, but they may need to be realistic here.
