Wow! What a night Tottenham Hotspur had on Wednesday! However, they will not be able to rest easy with another encounter against Manchester City coming up on Saturday and with Champions League football still on the line (albeit, next year’s tournament).
It would not be a surprise if Mauricio Pochettino has to make changes to his starting XI after the momentous victory, although it appears one man will definitely get more opportunities next season.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Mirror, Pochettino is ready to hand Juan Foyth more match time next season after he continued to impress with the opportunities he has had already.
Toby Alderweireld is believed to be heading for the exit in the summer, which will provide the young Argentine with plenty of chances to try and hold down a place in the first-team.
Foyth has already made eight Premier League starts this season and it is hardly a surprise that he could see that figure be eclipsed in the next campaign.
The 21-year-old has stepped in when required and has shown glimpses of quality, whilst he has also shown that there are errors to his game which should be eliminated with regular minutes on the pitch.
Still a raw talent, Foyth is the type of player that Pochettino will thrive having in his team and one that can certainly develop into a top talent as time progresses.
Valued at £10.8million (Transfermarkt), the centre-back can also be a near-readymade replacement for Alderweireld, should the Belgium international leave the Premier League outfit in the summer.
With Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen already in the squad, the South American can look to use those defenders as a mentor, whilst Tottenham must feel pretty comfortable with their options at the back even if the worst happens.
Tottenham fans, would you have liked to see Foyth in action more this season? Do you think he can replace Alderweireld in the summer? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
