Tottenham’s last league game is a great chance for 17-year-old to make his breakthrough

With a top-four finish all wrapped up, the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see a few new faces on the final day of the season. It was a struggle at points, but Tottenham should be able to look back on their campaign knowing that it was relatively successful. Now, though, they must look to the future, and in doing so, perhaps it’s time that they offer a chance to a few of their young players.

Pochettino has a large number of talented youngsters from which he could choose, and on the final day of the season against Leicester City, perhaps he should call on one of them.

One player that is certainly deserving of that call is young Reo Griffiths.

The 17-year-old has had a sensational year in the developmental system at Spurs, having bagged a remarkable 27 goals in the Under-18 Premier League. An incredibly potent goalscorer, he clearly knows where the net is, and that’s important for Spurs.

Natural goalscorers are exactly that – they know where the net is regardless of who or where they’re playing – and given Tottenham’s attacking struggles this season, Pochettino must take note. Beyond Harry Kane, he has little choice – with Fernando Llorente struggling to make an impact – and so Griffiths could be the perfect player to step up.

Quick, technical and supremely gifted with the ball at his feet, the English forward has an incredibly high ceiling.

He’s raw, of course, but he’s only going to improve by getting chances, and this is the perfect chance for him to get exactly that.
