Tottenham’s rejection of Janssen’s loan offer is not proof that he will stay long-term, here’s why..

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty disappointed with Vincent Janssen’s tenure in the Premier League so far…

The Dutchman has struggled so far this season, and that has left many in the Tavern clamouring for him to leave White Hart Lane.

That offer, reportedly, came during January – with Tottenham instead turning down a loan deal from Galatasaray for Janssen. Whilst that might suggest that Spurs have long-term plans for Janssen – that simply isn’t the case.

Jansen has struggled this season, and if that doesn’t change, he will be out of the door. The Dutchman has only scored 1 Premier League goal so far this season, and for a club like Tottenham, that just isn’t good enough. Of course, he has a tough act to follow being behind Harry Kane – but such is life in the English top flight.

Signed for over £18 million, Janssen was a sizeable invest from Tottenham, and if he doesn’t start performing – Daniel Levy will not hesitate to call time on his time in London.

Given that, the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have questioned why the Lilywhites refused to move the Dutchman on in January, and for that there is 1 single reason – money.

On a basic level, if Tottenham want to move him on, they simply must recoup the majority of their transfer fee. A loan deal would not help anyone, and it would simply cost the Dutchman a few months of being able to adjust to the Premier League.

You also can’t forget that Janssen has only just come to the Premier League. The first few months of a spell in a new league is always tough, but whilst Tottenham may have allowed him to flounder earlier in the season, that won’t be allowed going forward.

Simply put, the rejection of the deal meant very little. If Janssen wants a long-term spell in London, he must start performing.
