Manchester City have been simply superb this season and look to have the Premier League title sewn up, while they are into the last eight of the Champions League as Pep Guardiola seeks a trophy laden campaign in his second year.
Things at the Etihad couldn’t really be going much better, and here at the Tavern, our landlord has been absolutely loving watching the Citizens and welcoming their loyal fans into the bar over the course of the season.
However, come the summer, it’s difficult to see where City can improve, and a lot of focus could be on moving out players who might not be up to the task of being able to contribute on a regular basis to the cause.
Two players who fall into this category and could be up against each other for a place in the squad are midfielders Yaya Toure and Fabian Delph, who have both been bit part players in the main this term.
Toure is well into his 30s now, but remains a club legend, while on the other hand, Delph has plenty of life left in him and has been filling in to good effect at left back when needed.
It’s hard to see Pep wanting to keep both of the players though in the summer, and while all things will probably point to Toure being the one most likely to leave, Delph is a player who could command a decent fee if he’s sold on, and City might well be keen to recoup some money.
It will be interesting to see what Pep does, but it’s certain that both these players are not prominent in Pep’s first eleven plans on a regular basis.
City fans, what do you think? Who would you keep? Let us know in the comments!
